JUGS Protector Series Square Screen with Sock-Net and Wheel Kit
The JUGS Protector Series Square Screen with Sock-Net and Wheel Kit is a 7 ft x 7 ft baseball training screen with a 3 ft sock-net built into the netting. Hitters drive balls off a tee or a toss into the sock, which catches them and holds them, so a round ends with the balls gathered in one place instead of scattered around the cage. The same sock gives pitchers a target for throwing drills. It is built on the same padded steel frame and double-thick netting as the rest of the black Protector Series, and it comes standard with a wheel kit.
A Sock-Net That Catches and Collects the Ball
Tee work and toss drills are about volume. A hitter can take dozens of swings in a few minutes, and the time that eats into a session is chasing balls. A flat screen stops the ball, but the ball drops and rolls. The sock-net is a pocket in the netting: aim the swing at it, and balls that go in stay in the sock until you empty it.
That makes the screen useful in tight spaces such as a garage, a hitting tunnel or the corner of a gym, where balls bouncing off a flat net would roll under equipment or back toward the hitter. Set the screen a short distance in front of the tee, take a bucket of swings, and empty the sock into the bucket for the next round.
Tee, Toss and Pitching Drills
- Tee work: set the tee in front of the screen and drive line drives into the sock. The sock doubles as a target that rewards a level, middle-of-the-field swing.
- Soft toss: a partner tosses from the side, or a machine such as the JUGS Soft Toss Machine does it, while the hitter drives each ball into the screen.
- Pitching drills: pitchers throw into the sock from a short distance to work on mechanics and a consistent release without needing a catcher.
Keep a Bucket of JUGS Pearl Baseballs or a Bucket of JUGS Sting-Free Dimpled Baseballs beside the tee so the hitter can reload without stopping.
Built Like the Rest of the Protector Series
Behind the sock is a full 7 ft x 7 ft screen made for hard-hit baseballs. The netting is double-thick 691-90 ply polyester, so balls that miss the sock are stopped by a screen built for high-volume use. The frame is 1.5 inch cold-rolled steel tubing, which keeps the screen standing when it takes swing after swing at short range.
Pearl-foam padding with a vinyl cover wraps the frame. Close-range drills mean a mishit can hit the tubing, and the padding reduces how hard that ball rebounds toward the hitter while protecting the steel from wear. The frame goes together with double-bolted joints, with no welding or lacing.
Moving the JUGS Protector Series Square Screen with Sock-Net
The Protector Series Wheel Kit now comes standard. Lift the screen directly above the wheel kit and kick the wheels under it, and one person can roll it from a hitting station to storage, or from the cage out to the field for pregame tee work.
Who This Tee and Toss Screen Is For
- Backyard players and families who want a screen for daily tee and toss work that holds up to the same volume a team puts on it.
- High school programs that run several hitting stations at once and need a screen at each one.
- College programs doing pregame and in-season tee work.
How It Fits With the Other Protector Series Screens
The sock-net screen is the one built for collecting balls. For a coach or partner tossing from directly in front of the hitter, the compact Short-Toss Screen protects the tosser. For machine batting practice, use the L-Shaped Screen for baseball or the C-Shaped Softball Screen for fastpitch. To protect a first baseman or fielder during live hitting, the Square Baseman Screen is full netting with no sock. A lighter-duty version of this screen is the Protector Blue Series Square Screen with Sock-Net, and replacement netting for this model is sold as Protector Series Replacement Netting in the Sock-Net size.
