The Sports Radar SRDL-1838-KIT is the top of the Sports Radar display line: the SR3800 radar gun matched to an 18 inch red LED board that reads up to 199 and stays legible from about 1,000 feet, day or night. The gun reads a baseball to roughly 130 feet, works through chain link and reports both release speed and speed at the plate, so it can be operated from behind the backstop while the number goes up for an entire grandstand.

The 12V 5 amp power adapter and a 25 foot cable come with it. The link from gun to board is a plain CAT5 run and a serial protocol, so nothing in the setup depends on a phone, a pairing or a subscription.

What the SR3800 Brings to the SRDL-1838-KIT

The SR3800 covers 10 to 250 MPH at 1 MPH resolution, reads a baseball to about 130 feet at the nF1 noise filter setting and performs best between 30 and 100 MPH. Reading through chain link is the practical difference on a game field: the operator stays behind the backstop and still gets the number.

Pull and release the trigger for the fastest speed on a pitch. Pull and hold and the gun captures two readings from the same throw, toggling between the speed at release and the speed as the ball crosses the plate. A nine step noise filter, nF1 through nF9, trades range for interference rejection near lights, motors and other radar, and every preference the gun is set to, including whether the beeper sounds, is remembered between sessions.

An 18 Inch Board That Reads to 199

The 18 inch red LED display uses two and a half digits: a half height leading one ahead of two full digits, which lifts the ceiling from 99 to 199. That matters for elite showcase readings above 100 and for lacrosse and hockey shot speeds, and it means a fast pitch never rolls the board over into a meaningless number.

At 18 inches tall the digits carry about 1,000 feet in daylight or under lights, which covers a full grandstand, an outfield fence line or the far side of a multi field complex. This is the longest viewing distance available anywhere in the line.

Auto Dimming and Outdoor Construction

This is the only display in the line with an automatic dimming sensor, so the same board that reads through afternoon glare does not become a spotlight once the lights come on. Nothing gets switched between a day game and a night game.

The enclosure is .090 aluminum with a white powder coat, a 1/8 inch red plexiglass cover over the digits and a velvet text overlay that resists scratches, dust and fingerprints. Hangers are installed on the back, and the data connection is a single CAT5 and RJ45 port.

The included 25 foot cable covers a short run. CAT5 extenders in 25 and 50 foot lengths stack to a 100 foot maximum run between the radar and the display with a coupler at each join. Because of the size and weight of a board like this, the mounting structure should be planned with the installer before anything is fixed to a wall, a pole or a fence.
