About the Pro 8x10 Protective Field Screen
The Pro 8x10 Protective Field Screen is a large, padded field screen built to protect fielders, coaches and ball feeders during batting practice and fielding drills. The frame is 8 feet tall and 10 feet wide, built from 1.5 inch powder coated steel that bolts together, and it adds support poles across the face of the screen for extra stability. A UV treated #60 braided net slips over the frame pillowcase style for double protection, and one piece padding covers the frame so the screen can handle daily use on the field, in a facility or in an indoor cage.
The Pro 8x10 ships with black padding. Order it with no wheels, or add the Pro wheel kit with airless tires and steel plate covers so one coach can roll it into position.
Why Size Matters on a Field Screen
The 8x10 gives you the full 10 foot width of the largest field screens at a lower height. That wide face covers the bag area at first base and gives a coach or feeder room to move behind the net, while the 8 foot height keeps the screen a little lighter and easier to move and store.
During full field batting practice, the field screen at first base is often the most hit screen on the field after the L screen itself. Hard ground balls, short hops and throws from the infield all arrive in the same area. A wider, taller screen means fewer balls get around the edges and fewer players have to duck out of the way.
Support Poles and Welded Gussets for Stability
A big flat screen catches a lot of wind and takes a lot of leverage every time a ball hits it. The Pro field screen adds support poles in the middle of the frame, which brace the face of the screen and keep it from flexing. Each leg also has 2 welded gussets for added strength where the legs meet the frame, which is the area that usually fails first on large screens. The result is a frame that stays square and stays standing through batting practice, fielding drills and windy days.
The 1.5 inch steel is powder coated for a tough finish that holds up outdoors, and the frame bolts together so it can be assembled on site and broken down for storage when the season ends.
UV Treated #60 Braided Net
The #60 braided net is treated for UV and weather exposure, so it holds its strength through a season of sun and rain. It slides over the frame pillowcase style, which puts a layer of net on both the front and the back of the frame. That double layer gives extra protection to anyone standing behind the screen and helps the net last longer.
One Piece Padding for Field and Facility Use
One piece padding wraps the frame. It protects the net where it meets the steel, softens the hit when a ball strikes the frame, and gives the screen a finished look that fits in a training facility as well as on the field. The padding also makes this screen useful for more than protecting fielders.
Ways to Use the Pro 8x10 Field Screen
- First base: protect the player receiving throws from infielders during batting practice.
- Second base or behind the mound: shield a coach or fielder feeding balls up the middle.
- In front of a pitching machine: protect the person loading balls and the machine itself.
- Catcher's backstop: use the padded screen as a backstop for bullpen and catching drills.
- Pitching targets: hang a pitching target on the screen for bullpen work.
- Sidelines and dugouts: block foul balls near benches and team areas during practice.
Who the Pro 8x10 Field Screen Is For
This screen is built for high school and college baseball programs, travel organizations with their own fields, and training facilities that need a large, durable screen that can move between the field and an indoor space. If your current field screen is too small to cover first base, or has bent legs and a sagging net after a few seasons, this is a step up in both size and build.
Setup and Use
Bolt the frame sections and support poles together and tighten each joint until it is snug. Slide the net over the frame from the top and pull it down evenly so both layers sit flat and tight. Set the screen on level ground where you need protection. Recheck the hardware periodically during the season to keep the frame rigid. A screen this size is heavy, so plan on two people to stand it up, or add the wheel kit so one coach can tip it back and roll it. Keep balls collected at each station with a Pro Baseball Ball Cart.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this screen and a Varsity field screen?
The Pro field screen adds one piece padding on the frame, support poles across the face for stability, and 2 welded gussets on each leg. The padding protects the net and reduces ricochet, and the support poles keep a large screen from flexing.
Can it be used as a backstop?
Yes. The padded frame and heavy net make it a good backstop for catching drills and bullpen work, and pitching targets can be hung on it.
Will it hold up outdoors?
Yes. The steel is powder coated and the #60 braided net is UV and weather treated for outdoor use. Storing it out of standing water in the offseason extends its life.
Do I need the wheel kit?
If you move the screen around the field or between the field and a facility, the wheel kit is worth adding. A screen this size is heavy to carry.
Can I get other pad colors?
This screen is currently available with black padding. Additional pad colors are expected to be added to the Pro line in the future.
