Premium Softball Pitcher's Screen - 7x7 with Pitching Machine Window
The Premium 7x7 Softball Pitcher's Screen is a padded softball screen with a window built for pitching machines. The frame is 7 feet tall and 7 feet wide, built from 1.5 inch powder coated steel with a compression bolt together design, and a UV treated #60 braided net slips over it pillowcase style for two layers of protection. One piece UV treated padding wraps the frame. A 30 inch tall by 24 inch wide cutout sits 21 inches off the ground, at the height most fastpitch softball pitching machines throw from.
Order it with no wheels, the Standard Wheel Kit or the Pro Wheel Kit.
A Window Sized for Pitching Machines
When a pitching machine throws to hitters, the person feeding it is standing a short distance from a hitter who is trying to drive the ball right back up the middle. The 30 x 24 inch window on this screen lets the ball from the machine pass through while the feeder stays behind full height netting. Because the window sits 21 inches off the ground, it lines up with most fastpitch machines without stacking the machine on a box or stand.
Covers the Coach Pitching Live BP
The same screen works when a coach pitches underhand batting practice. The 7x7 frame gives the coach a big wall of net to pitch beside and step behind after each pitch, and the padded frame keeps balls that hit the edge of the screen from bouncing back hard.
Padding and a Double Layer Net
One piece UV treated padding covers the frame. It protects the net where it touches the steel, which is where nets wear through first, and it softens balls that hit the frame. The UV treated #60 braided net covers the front and back of the frame like a pillowcase, so a ball that stretches through the front layer still meets a second layer.
Bolt Together Steel Frame
The 1.5 inch powder coated steel frame bolts together with compression joints that stay tight, and a gusset is welded onto each leg. It assembles on site and breaks down for storage at the end of the season.
Who the Premium Softball Pitcher's Screen Is For
- High school, college and travel fastpitch softball programs that use pitching machines
- Coaches who pitch live underhand batting practice
- Softball training facilities that want padded screens in every cage
- Families with a backyard cage and a fastpitch machine
Choosing a Wheel Option
A padded steel 7x7 screen is heavy to carry. The wheel kits bolt to the base so one person can tip the screen back and roll it between the cage and the field. The Pro Wheel Kit uses airless tires with steel plate covers. The Standard Wheel Kit is the lower cost option. Skip wheels if the screen will stay in one cage.
Machine Feeding Tips
- Set the machine close behind the window so the ball clears the opening with room to spare.
- Feed from the side of the screen, never reaching around the front of the frame.
- Keep a bucket of balls behind the screen so you are not stepping out to reload.
- Run a few pitches with no hitter first to confirm the ball passes cleanly through the window.
Fastpitch or Slowpitch?
The machine window is sized and placed for fastpitch softball machines, and the screen is most often used by fastpitch programs. Coaches pitching slowpitch batting practice can still pitch from beside the screen and step behind it, but the window itself is designed around a fastpitch machine release.
Setup and Use
Bolt the frame together and tighten each joint until snug. Slide the net over the frame from the top and line the net opening up with the window in the frame, then pull the net down evenly so both layers sit flat and tight. Set the pitching machine directly behind the window so the ball passes cleanly through the opening. Recheck the hardware periodically during the season.
