About the Premium 7x7 Protective Field Screen
The Premium 7x7 Protective Field Screen is a padded, square field screen that protects fielders, coaches and ball feeders during batting practice and fielding drills. The frame is 7 feet tall and 7 feet wide, built from 1.5 inch powder coated steel that bolts together, and a UV treated #60 braided net slips over it pillowcase style for two layers of protection. One piece padding wraps the frame, so the screen works on the field, in an indoor facility and even as a backstop.
Choose from seven pad colors (black, red, green, light blue, blue, dark blue and yellow) and order it with no wheels, the Standard Wheel Kit or the Pro Wheel Kit.
What a Field Screen Does
A field screen has no throwing cutout. Its job is to protect the people who are not hitting or pitching during live batting practice: the first baseman taking throws from infielders, the coach feeding balls at second base, the player loading a pitching machine, or the coach hitting fungoes between pitches. A solid square of net is the right tool for every one of those jobs.
Why a 7x7 Field Screen
A 7x7 screen is the most versatile field screen size. It covers a first baseman taking throws, a coach feeding at second base or a player loading a pitching machine, and it is small enough to fit inside most batting cages for machine work. If you only buy one field screen, this is the size most programs choose.
The #60 braided net is a strong all around net for high school and travel batting practice, and it is the same net weight used on Premium L screens.
Padding Makes It More Than a Field Screen
The one piece padding protects the net where it touches the frame, which is where nets wear through first, and it absorbs balls that hit the frame instead of sending them back at your players. It also makes the screen useful for jobs a bare frame cannot do well: it works as a padded backstop for catching and bullpen drills, and pitchers can hang a target on it for location work.
Bolt Together Steel Frame
The 1.5 inch powder coated steel frame bolts together, so it assembles on site and breaks down for storage at the end of the season. A gusset is welded onto each leg for strength where large screens usually fail first. The powder coat finish and UV treated net and padding are made for outdoor use.
Ways to Use the Premium 7x7 Field Screen
- First base: protect the player receiving throws during batting practice
- Second base or behind the mound: shield a coach or feeder
- In front of a pitching machine: protect the person loading balls and the machine
- Bullpen: use the padded screen as a backstop for catching drills
- Pitching targets: hang a target for location work
- Sidelines: block foul balls near benches during practice
Who It Is For
This screen is built for high school and travel baseball programs, organizations with their own fields, and training facilities that want padded screens that can move between indoor and outdoor use. It is also a good choice for any team that wants screens in its colors.
Choosing a Wheel Option
A padded steel field screen is heavy to carry from base to base. The wheel kits bolt to the base so one person can tip the screen back and roll it. The Pro Wheel Kit uses airless tires with steel plate covers, so there is nothing to go flat. The Standard Wheel Kit is the lower cost option. If the screen will stay in one spot, skip wheels and add them later if you need to.
Setup and Use
Bolt the frame sections together and tighten each joint until snug. Slide the net over the frame from the top and pull it down evenly so both layers sit flat and tight. Set the screen on level ground where you need protection. Recheck the hardware periodically during the season. Keep balls collected at each station with a Pro Baseball Ball Cart.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where should a field screen go during batting practice?
Most teams put it in front of first base so the first baseman can take throws while hitters are live. It also works behind second base, in front of a pitching machine or near the fungo hitter.
How is the Premium field screen different from the Varsity field screen?
Both use a 1.5 inch powder coated steel frame. The Premium screen adds one piece padding on the frame and a braided net.
Can I use it as a catcher backstop?
Yes. The padded frame makes it a good backstop for catching and bullpen drills, and you can hang a pitching target on it.
Can it be used for pitching batting practice?
No. It has no throwing cutout. Use an L screen for that.
Can I choose a pad color?
Yes: black, red, green, light blue, blue, dark blue or yellow.
