JUGS BP3 Baseball Pitching Machine with Changeup

JUGS BP3 Baseball Pitching Machine with Changeup

The JUGS BP3 Baseball Pitching Machine with Changeup is a three-wheel baseball pitching machine built for hitters who need to see more than one look at the plate. It throws nine different pitches from a single dial, runs from 40 to 90 mph, and switches from fastball to changeup at the push of a remote button, so a coach can change speeds without the hitter seeing it coming. It suits baseball programs from backyard and youth league play through high school, college, hitting facilities and professional-level training.

Because three wheels control the ball, the BP3 does not have to be rotated or re-aimed to change pitch types. Turn the dial, make a fine adjustment if needed, and the next pitch arrives with the movement you asked for. The same machine handles defensive work as well, from grounders and catcher pop-ups to fly balls deep into the outfield, which makes it a practice tool for the whole baseball roster rather than only the hitters.

Nine Pitches From One Dial

The Select-A-Pitch dial sets the BP3 to any of nine preset pitches: fastballs and changeups, right- and left-handed curveballs, right- and left-handed sliders, right- and left-handed cutters, and split-finger fastballs. Moving between them takes a turn of the dial rather than a teardown of the head, so a single round of batting practice can cover the pitch mix a hitter will face in a real baseball game.

That variety matters for development. A hitter who only sees straight fastballs at one speed learns to time one pitch. Giving that hitter right-handed breaking balls in one round and left-handed cutters in the next builds recognition of spin and break, and that recognition carries into live at-bats. Coaches preparing a lineup can also set the machine to mirror the handedness and pitch mix of an upcoming opponent.

The three-wheel layout is what makes the quick switch possible. With the ball gripped from three points, the head does not need to be tilted or turned to produce a curveball or slider, so the release point stays consistent from one pitch type to the next. Hitters learn to read the ball out of the same window every time, the way they would against a pitcher with a repeatable arm slot.

Changeups on Demand With the BP3 Remote

The instant changeup is the feature that sets this machine apart from a standard fastball trainer. A key-chain remote lets the coach switch from fastball to changeup at the touch of a button, and the same control sits on the machine's control panel. Because the change happens without any visible adjustment at the machine, the hitter cannot pick it up in advance. That hidden speed change is exactly what makes a changeup effective in a game, and it is very hard to recreate with a machine that has to be re-dialed by hand.

For players who get out in front of off-speed pitches, this is the drill that fixes it: look fastball, react to the changeup, and repeat until staying back becomes automatic. The coach can control speed from behind the plate or from wherever they are standing, while a second person feeds balls.

Automatic Fastball and Changeup Hitting Circuits

When nobody wants to press a button on every pitch, the BP3 can run the sequence on its own. Three preset hitting circuits automatically alternate between fastball and changeup, so each hitter gets a pitcher-versus-hitter style at-bat instead of settling into a predictable groove. Hitters have to decide on every pitch whether to commit or hold, and coaches are free to watch swings instead of managing controls.

Circuits are also a practical way to run stations at a team practice. Choose a circuit, put a feeder on the machine, and let a group of hitters cycle through game-like rounds while the rest of the staff works with fielders or pitchers.

Digital Speed Control From 40 to 90 MPH

Speed is set digitally by turning a knob, and the setting shows on a large 3 inch LCD readout, so landing on an exact number is quick and repeatable. The 40 to 90 mph range spans a wide band of baseball levels, from younger players building confidence up to advanced hitters preparing for high velocity. Small speed changes let a coach move a hitter up a few mph at a time as timing improves, rather than jumping straight to game speed.

A clear readout also helps when several coaches share one machine. Note the setting a hitter works best at, and anyone can return the BP3 to it at the next session.

Pinpoint Targeting and Full-Field Adjustment

Pitch location is controlled at two levels. The Pinpoint horizontal and vertical micro-adjustments make fine changes with a simple turn of the wrist, moving a pitch slightly in, out, up or down without re-aiming the whole machine. A coach can work the inside corner in one round and the low, outside corner in the next, and hitters can practice a plan at the plate instead of swinging at whatever arrives.

For bigger moves, vertical and horizontal macro adjustment levers and 360 degree rotation swing the head toward any part of the field. The BP3 can send fly balls of up to 325 feet, towering pop-ups for infielders and catchers, and ground balls to any position.

Long Feed Chute: Always See the Ball

The BP3 comes standard with the Long Feed Chute, part of a delivery system designed so the hitter always has a clear view of the ball before release. Instead of a ball that seems to appear from inside the machine, the hitter tracks it into the wheels. That early look acts as a timing cue, much like watching a pitcher's arm, so the load and stride can line up the way they would against a live arm. It also gives the BP3 a realistic delivery height.

Defensive Practice and Optional Short Legs

The BP3 is just as useful when the gloves come out. With its adjustment levers and full rotation it handles catcher pop-up drills, grounders and deep fly balls. Optional BP3 Defensive Short Legs, sold separately, lower the release point for fielding work so the bounce, spin and release read more like a ball coming off a bat. They install with Quick-Snap release buttons and support infield fielding drills, second base tagging drills, double play drills, deep fly ball and hooking fly ball drills, and infield fly balls.

Built for Heavy Baseball Use

Three 1/4 HP motors drive the wheels, and each motor sits behind a cast aluminum guard that protects it from direct hits. The frame is cast aluminum and steel, and the complete machine weighs 140 lbs. The 12 inch Grip-Tite pneumatic tires are non-marking and are designed not to melt, crack or chunk the way solid tires can, while holding the ball firmly for accurate pitches.

Setup is simple. The legs attach with a Quick-Snap connection, so no T-handle or leg clamp is needed. To move the machine, lock it in the pop-up position, lower it to the ground and roll it like a wheelbarrow. The BP3 runs on standard 110-volt AC power, or on the Bluetti AC70P portable power supply on fields without an outlet.

Who the JUGS BP3 Baseball Pitching Machine Is For

  • High school and college baseball programs that want breaking balls, changeups and automatic pitch sequencing in one machine
  • Hitting facilities and training academies running lessons and cage time day after day
  • Youth league and travel baseball coaches who want adjustable speed and real timing work
  • Serious backyard players and families with a home batting cage who want one machine for hitting and fielding
  • Coaches who run defensive practice and want repeatable grounders, pop-ups and fly balls

JUGS counts NCAA Division I national championship coaches and Major League hitters among the people who train with the BP3.

How to Use the BP3 in Practice

Start each hitter with fastballs at a comfortable speed to establish timing, then raise the speed in small steps with the digital control. Once the hitter is squaring up the fastball, bring in the changeup from the remote and let the hitter work on staying back. Finish the round with a hitting circuit so the hitter cannot predict what is coming next.

Breaking balls work best in short blocks. Pick one pitch, such as a right-handed slider, and give the hitter enough reps to recognize the spin before moving on to the next. Use the micro-adjustments to target one zone, for example low and away, so hitters practice an approach instead of simply swinging.

A simple team rotation keeps everyone moving. Split hitters into groups of three or four. The first round is fastballs only, used to groove timing. The second round mixes in remote changeups so hitters learn to stay back. The third round uses one breaking ball from each side, for example a right-handed curveball followed by a left-handed slider. The last round runs a preset hitting circuit as a live at-bat, where the hitter only gets a few pitches to put a ball in play. Because speed and pitch type are both set from the dial and the remote, moving from one round to the next takes seconds rather than minutes, and the BP3 never needs to be moved off its spot.

Older hitters can also use the BP3 to work on two-strike approach. Set the circuit, tell the hitter the count is 0-2, and have them choke up and shorten the swing to fight off whatever comes, then reset to a hitter's count and let them hunt a fastball.

For defense, rotate the machine toward the fielders and use the macro levers to set the height. Send pop-ups to catchers, grounders to infielders working on footwork, and fly balls to outfielders practicing their reads. During live hitting, a protective screen in front of the feeder, such as the JUGS Instant Screen, keeps the person loading balls protected.

Compatible Baseballs

The BP3 throws regulation baseballs as well as a range of JUGS practice balls: the leather JUGS Pearl and Youth League Pearl, Sting-Free baseballs in dimpled and seam styles, Maximum Velocity Sting-Free baseballs, Lite-Flite baseballs, Softie baseballs and Bulldog polyballs. For machine rounds, JUGS Pearl leather baseballs and the Bucket of JUGS Pearls are natural choices, along with Sting-Free dimpled baseballs and Lite-Flite baseballs. A Back-Saver portable ball basket keeps the supply at the feeder's hip.
