Bucket of JUGS Low Impact Multi-Use Practice Softballs, 2 Dozen

Bucket of JUGS Low Impact Multi-Use Practice Softballs, 2 Dozen

The Bucket of JUGS Low Impact Multi-Use Practice Softballs packs 2 dozen (24) lightweight training softballs into a Michele Smith ball bucket with a lid. Each ball is a full 12 inches, the same size as a leather softball, but weighs 4.75 ounces, so it will not sting hitters' hands even at high machine speeds and is safe for all bats. Designed for advanced pitching machine batting practice, the lighter ball comes off the machine with added velocity, and the seams make it just as useful for live arm, short-toss, soft-toss and catcher drills. The bright orange color keeps it easy to track.

Velocity Work Without Stinging Hands

Hitting a firm, high-speed pitch over and over is how advanced hitters sharpen their timing on velocity, but at regulation weight that kind of round is hard on the hands and hard on the bats. The lighter weight of this softball changes the trade-off. Hitters can take a full round against a fast machine setting without their hands stinging, and the added velocity from the lighter ball gives advanced softball hitters a real challenge to catch up to.

Programs use these balls for velocity-in work during batting practice, where a hitter learns to get the barrel to an inside pitch without fear of getting jammed. The low impact design makes that a daily drill instead of an occasional one.

Same Size as a Leather Softball, Safe for Bats

At 12 inches, the ball is the same size as a leather softball, so the target a hitter sees and the contact point on the barrel are realistic. Because the ball is lighter, it will not damage bats, which lets players take practice swings with the bat they use in games instead of saving it for game day.

Seamed for Live Arm and Catcher Drills

The seamed design reflects how a leather ball plays, so the same bucket works for more than machine rounds. Coaches can throw live arm batting practice, run short-toss and soft-toss stations, and work catchers through high-velocity receiving and blocking drills. For catchers, a ball that will not sting the hand or bruise on a block means more reps at game speed with less wear on the player.

Good for Cold Weather and Younger Hitters

A lightweight, low impact ball is also a good fit for colder days, when contact with a regulation ball stings more, and for younger softball players who are still building confidence in the box. Hitters can get quality work in without the fear of hurting their hands.

What Coaches Say About These Softballs

"The JUGS Multi-Use ball is great to use in colder weather and with youth. The light-weight Sting-Free balls allows hitters to get good work in without the fear of hurting their hands." - Jessica Hollen, Head Coach, Women's Softball, George Fox University

"Working on velocity-in during BP is a huge part of our daily hitting routine. The Multi-Use Light-Weight softballs from Jugs allow us to do so without the fear of damaging bats or stinging our hitters' hands. We're also very excited to use the Multi-Use balls with our catchers for high velocity receiving and blocking drills. A couple buckets of Jugs Multi-Use Softballs should last us for years." - Jim Speciale, Head Softball Coach, Jesuit High School, 2-Time State Champion

The Michele Smith Bucket With Lid

The 24 softballs come in a Michele Smith ball bucket with a lid that holds up to 30 standard-size softballs. The lid keeps balls from spilling in the car, and the closed bucket doubles as a seat for a coach feeding a machine or throwing short-toss.

Choosing a JUGS Softball Bucket

JUGS makes several 2-dozen softball buckets, and the right one depends on how your team practices:

  • Big Bucket of JUGS Lite-Flite Softballs: soft, lightweight, sponge-like balls made for the JUGS Lite-Flite Machine, for sting-free work with younger hitters and indoor sessions, in 11 or 12 inch.
  • Bucket of JUGS Sting-Free Dimpled Softballs: leather size and weight with a dimpled surface made for JUGS softball pitching machines, waterproof, in 11 or 12 inch.
  • Bucket of JUGS Sting-Free Realistic-Seam Softballs: seamed Sting-Free balls at regulation size and weight for live arm and machine work, safe for composite bats.
  • Bucket of JUGS Low Impact Multi-Use Practice Softballs (this bucket): orange, seamed, 12 inch and 4.75 oz, a lighter ball for advanced machine velocity work and catcher drills.
  • Bucket of JUGS LeatherLast Softballs: full-grain leather with Kevlar-stitched seams, for game-ball feel at full speed in a machine or from a live arm.

A simple way to decide is to think about who is hitting and who is feeding. Younger hitters building confidence suit Lite-Flite, daily machine rounds suit the dimpled or LeatherLast balls, and coaches who throw live batting practice get the most from the seamed balls.
