JUGS SP3 Fastpitch Softball Pitching Machine

JUGS SP3 Fastpitch Softball Pitching Machine

The JUGS SP3 Fastpitch Softball Pitching Machine is a three-wheel fastpitch softball machine that throws seven pitch types, including risers and drop balls, at speeds from 45 to 75 mph. Pitch type is chosen with a single dial and speed with a single knob, so a softball coach can go from fastballs to screwballs between swings without stopping practice to reset the machine.

It is built for softball hitters who need to see movement, not just velocity: high school and college programs, advanced travel ball teams, hitting facilities, professional settings, and backyard players working on their own. Pinpoint location control and a cast aluminum body round out a machine meant for daily use in the cage.

Seven Softball Pitches at the Turn of a Dial

The pitches that give softball hitters trouble are the ones that move: a riser that climbs through the top of the zone, a drop that falls off the table, a curve or screwball that starts at one edge of the plate and finishes at the other. The SP3's Select-A-Pitch dial covers all of them:

  • Fastball
  • Right-handed curveball
  • Left-handed curveball
  • Right-handed screwball
  • Left-handed screwball
  • Riser
  • Drop ball

Having right- and left-handed versions of the curve and screwball lets a hitter see a pitch moving away and then moving in, which is the kind of variety that builds pitch recognition. Coaches can stay on one pitch for a full round to groove an approach, or change the dial between swings so hitters stop sitting on one look.

Pinpoint Location Control

The SP3 uses Pinpoint micro-adjustment knobs for horizontal and vertical location. A couple of turns moves the pitch from high and inside to low and outside, so a coach can work one part of the zone, then shift to another without moving the machine. That matters in softball, where so much of the game is played at the top and bottom of the zone: hitters can see the riser just above the hands until they learn to lay off it, or see the drop at the knees until they learn to stay on it.

45-75 mph Digital Speed Control

Speed is set by turning a knob, with the exact number shown on a liquid crystal display (LCD). The 45-75 mph range suits the high school, college and advanced travel ball hitters the machine is rated for, and the digital readout makes it easy to repeat a speed from session to session or raise it gradually as a hitter improves.

A Realistic Look From the Machine

The SP3 delivers from a realistic height that replicates a live pitcher's angle, which helps hitters work on timing instead of adjusting to an unfamiliar ball flight. Combined with seven pitch types and fine location control, it lets a softball team run hitting stations focused on accurate pitches and learning the strike zone, the kind of all-purpose, multi-station use the machine was designed around.

Built to Move On and Off the Field

The SP3 has a sturdy cast aluminum body for regular use, and a transport cart lets you tilt the machine back and roll it on and off the field. That makes it practical to move from the cage to the infield for a session and back again when practice is over.

Which Softballs Work in the SP3

The SP3 throws regular softballs as well as a range of JUGS practice softballs:

For solo hitting, the JUGS Carousel Automatic Ball Feeder comes in a version made for the SP3 and BP3 softball machines. It holds 18 softballs and releases one every 6 seconds. The feeder takes only 11 or 12 inch regulation weight JUGS practice softballs with seams, LeatherLast, Softie or dimpled-style balls, and it cannot be used for slow-pitch softball. A Back-Saver Portable Ball Basket keeps balls at hand for whoever is feeding.

SP3 Softball vs. BP3 Softball

The JUGS BP3 Softball Pitching Machine shares the SP3's three-wheel design and 45-75 mph speed range. The difference is the changeup. The BP3 adds a changeup that can be triggered from a keychain remote or the control panel, plus three automatic fastball/changeup hitting circuits, for eight pitches in total. The SP3 offers seven pitches without the changeup. If changing speeds on hitters is central to your practice plan, the BP3 is the one to look at; if you want the full set of softball movement pitches without the changeup system, the SP3 covers it.

Who the JUGS SP3 Fastpitch Softball Pitching Machine Is For

  • High school and college softball programs that want risers, drops, curves and screwballs in daily batting practice.
  • Advanced travel ball teams preparing hitters for pitchers who move the ball.
  • Hitting facilities running softball lessons and stations.
  • Serious backyard players who have outgrown a fastball-only machine.

Training Applications

  • Riser discipline: Set a riser just above the zone and have hitters take until they can consistently lay off it.
  • Drop ball approach: Work the drop at the knees so hitters learn to stay on the pitch and drive it rather than roll over.
  • Inside and away: Alternate right- and left-handed screwballs so hitters see the same pitch running in and breaking away.
  • Location rounds: Use the micro-adjustment knobs to move the pitch around the zone, one spot per round.
  • Speed steps: Raise the speed a few mph at a time using the digital readout as hitters adjust.

Does the SP3 Softball throw changeups?

No. The changeup is the main feature the JUGS BP3 Softball adds, along with a keychain remote and automatic fastball/changeup hitting circuits.

Can I use real softballs in the SP3?

Yes. It throws softballs as well as JUGS LeatherLast, Sting-Free, Lite-Flite, Softie and Bulldog softballs. If you add a Carousel Feeder, use only the softball types the feeder lists.

Can the SP3 work without someone feeding balls?

Yes, with the JUGS Carousel Feeder made for the SP3 and BP3 softball machines, sold separately. It holds 18 softballs and releases one every 6 seconds.

What level of softball player is the SP3 made for?

The SP3 Softball is rated for backyard players, high schools, colleges, advanced travel ball, hitting facilities and professionals. Its 45-75 mph range and seven movement pitches suit hitters who already handle fastballs and need to see risers, drops, curves and screwballs.

The machine uses a transport cart built for tilt-and-roll movement: tip it back onto the cart and wheel it on or off the field.

What warranty comes with the SP3 Softball?
