Same great teaching tool only built for the player 14 and under. This bag is perfect for teaching young hitters how good mechanics lead to harder hit balls. They can actually see the results while still getting the benefit of strength development. The bag weighs 3.5 lbs. and comes with everything you need to mount to a pole 3 ½" diameter or smaller. You get the top arm and u-bolts to mount to a pole. The bag can be removed from the arm after use for safe storage.
The Power Bag is a tool no hitter should train without. Lance Berkman (pictured) credits a similar device his father made with much of the power he has in his wrist and forearms. This power and strength at contact results in more spring off of the bat head. Bat speed is crucial for hitting the ball a long way, but if there is give in the wrist at contact much of the benefit of bat speed is lost. Strengthening the hands, wrist and forearms by using the Power Bag will decrease the amount of recoil and cause the ball to JUMP off of your bat.
Finally, a training aid that develops power hitter skills and power hitter strength while allowing you to see the results! The Power Bag hitting aid:
- Produces explosive hitting mechanics and encourages lower body torque and stability.
- Is a goal oriented teaching tool that gives instant visual feedback with every swing.
- Produces higher ball exit speeds.
- Teaches the benefits of compact hitting mechanics.
- Is available in different sizes for different players.
The Power Bag was specifically designed to allow the hitter to swing through the bag. The bag has a 1/2 steel cable that runs down the center. This gives the bag flexibility and allows the hitter to begin moving the bag at contact.
The Power Bag gives instant feedback with every swing. Common hitter faults such as poor hip rotation, casting or swinging around the ball, poor hand position (rolled wrist), barring the lead arm or lunging at the target will result in a weak hit and the bag will not move much. If a hitter uses sound point of contact hitting mechanics as taught by most instructors, Bingo! The bag goes higher or all the way around once, twice or more times! This visual and physical reward helps teach hitters how using good fundamentals leads to harder hit balls and helps the hitter develop the necessary strength to hit the ball with authority every time.
The Power bag has a light foam center surrounded by a flexible, tear-resistant durable polyurethane coating. It is soft enough to absorb bat impact and can be used with any bat.
Each Power Bag unit comes complete including the top arm and u-bolts which can be mounted to a 3.5” diameter or smaller pole or pipe. The top arm could also be mounted to a wood surface using wood screws or bolts. The bag can be removed from the top arm for storage by simply removing a ring pin.
We do recommend removing the bag from the outdoor elements when it will not be used for an extended period of time.
Comes with a two year limited warranty!
Can’t I just hit a tire?
Hitting a sturdy tire or similar device can cause a hitter to develop the bad habit of not finishing the swing. A ball is in contact with a bat only 1/2000 of a second and some people will have you believe any energy spent after contact is wasted. In theory this may be correct, but how many times as a coach or parent have you noticed players of all ages give up on a swing? By teaching players to always finish their swing when using a heavy bag you help them develop good habits that eventually translate into harder hit balls and sound muscle memory mechanics.
We have received input from many coaches over years and can help you make the best decision possible based on what your needs are. The guidelines below are what we recommend.
Large Power Bag - 9.5 lbs. (10" diameter & 24" long) - For large boys 15 and over, High school baseball, college baseball and pros. (players over 180 lbs.) A college player should be able to hit this bag all the way around. We have had a few HS baseball coaches say they prefer the medium bag since it is easier to hit through. We feel this bag is best for most HS programs. The more you use it, the stronger the kids get and the easier it becomes as the season goes along.
Medium Power Bag - 7.5 lbs. (7" diameter & 24" long) - For smaller boys 14 and over, all high school and college girls. (players 110-200 lbs.) We have had several HS fastpitch coaches inform us that by the end of their first year using this bag, 4-6 of their girls were hitting this bag all the way around. Zero were at the beginning of the year.
We also carry a smaller Power Bag: The Junior Power Bag
Junior Power Bag (This Product) - 5 lbs. (7" diameter & 24" long) - For most all players 13 and under. (120 lbs. and below) This bag is somewhat closer to hitting a deflated basketball though heavier. As a coach it depends on what you are after. This bag does not hang as far from the top arm as the other two making it easier to hit around. Most 9 year old boys will get it around once with practice, 12 year old boys 2-4 times, average 14 year old 5-8 times. This bag is perfect for teaching the younger kids why good mechanics lead to more power.
